Today I went to Penrose St. Francis with my coworker as she had her knee replaced. I sat with her in pre-op where we laughed and laughed. I waited for her in the OR waiting area and talked to the surgeon when he came out and told me that all was well. I called her family. When she got back to her room, I immediately fell back in to nurse mode. It's funny. Some things really are like riding a bicycle. I got the inspirometer going, her bunny boots hooked up, I helped to turn her, move her up into bed and taught her how to use her overhead frame and trapeze. It was fun. For a couple of minutes, I miss being a nurse. Just a couple of minutes. I was honored to be with Sue and I was honored that she let me be her family today.
I am now doing Weight Watcher On Line. It's been a couple of days, only, but so far so good. We shall see next Monday morning if I have lost any weight.
I am off to bed as it has been a loooong day. It feels good to have helped someone. Somebody even called me an "angel of mercy". Wow, I still have it in me.
